Prince Harry gets a new job after leaving the British royal family. He will be the first chief employee of BetterUp Inc, a San Francisco-based start-up providing employee training and mental health assistance.
“I firmly believe that focusing and prioritizing our mental health opens up potentials and opportunities that we never knew existed within us,” said Harry in a company blog post.

Harry will be in charge of helping promote mental fitness and expanding the company’s list of coaches and customers. He said he had started working with BetterUp coaches and found it invaluable.
“I fit in with a really extraordinary coach who has given me good advice and a fresh perspective,” he said.
BetterUp was founded in 2013 and offers a mobile application that connects people to training, counseling and mentorship programs. This service is used by more than 300 businesses including Chevron, Snap Inc, and AT&T’s WarnerMedia.
BetterUp raised US $ 125 million in February, bringing its valuation to US $ 1.73 billion. The Wall Street Journal first reported the news about Harry’s new role.
Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, now live in Southern California. Prior to joining BetterUp, Harry had signed contracts with Netflix Inc and Spotify.
Prince Harry also collaborated with Oprah Winfrey on a documentary series on mental health for the Apple TV streaming service.

Duke of Sussex joins Silicon Valley startup BetterUp as Chief Impact Officer. Harry’s spokesman confirmed the prince’s new post.
BetterUp provides mental health training and services to clients. The company’s website lists Harry as part of its leadership team, describing him as a “humanitarian, military veteran, mental health advocate and environmentalist.”
Harry joined the startup weeks after he and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, had an impromptu interview with Oprah Winfrey. The interview detailed their decision to leave Britain and step down from senior roles in the British royal family.
The couple, who live in California, also discussed the pressure royal life has on their mental health.
The Wall Street Journal first reported that Harry had joined the startup. At BetterUp, Harry is expected to have input in product strategy decisions and charitable contributions, and to advocate publicly on topics related to mental health, the newspaper reported.
The newspaper said BetterUp declined to comment on how much Harry would be paid.
“It’s a meaningful and big role,” said CEO Alexi Robichaux, quoted by the Wall Street Journal.
